Dyslexia Matters launches the pilot study for the Quality Mark Award

By Julia Hewerdine

Mildenhall Hub Conference welcomes the new Quality Mark:

Liz and Julia introduced the Dyslexia Matters Quality Mark Award (DMQMA) to a well-established and receptive group of SENCOs, Family Support Workers and Teaching Assistants on Friday 9th February. The Quality Mark Award is the result of a collaboration between the Dyslexia Matters Team, Kate Ruttle, Karen Walmsley and Professor Janice Wearmouth.

The purpose of the award is to provide cost-effective support to schools in meeting the needs of pupils with dyslexia/specific learning difficulties/literacy difficulties, rewarding the evaluation process as well as best practice. It will enable the school to provide key evidence for a number of core competencies of a good school:

·         Outcomes for all pupils, including those with SEN

·         Professional development for staff

·         Teachers’ self-evaluation and reflection

·         Teachers’ Standards

·         The Code of Practice 2015, including the publication of the annual SEND report.

It can also be used to support any new SENCO completing their SENCO award.

To support the piloting of the DMQMA, we would like to invite other schools SENCOs  to participate in a free cycle until September 2018, in return for the SENCO giving us feedback on how the Award could be improved.

The cost from September would be £15 per month, including VAT, (£12.50 for schools who can reclaim VAT). This would be payable until the school is ready to apply for the full DMQMA, which would have an additional charge to reflect the cost of checking the paperwork from the school.
