Units of Work:

Unit 1: Understanding the Context of a Provision for Learners with Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties

Learners will:

  • Understand well-established perspectives relating to the context of a provision for learners with

dyslexia/specific learning difficulties

Unit 2:  Assessing Learners with Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties in Preparation for Teaching Interventions

Learners will:

  • Be able to demonstrate techniques required to assess learners with dyslexia/specific learning difficulties
  • Understand how to prioritise assessment data for use in comparing approaches in learning support for learners with dyslexia/specific learning difficulties
  • Understand how to assess a group of learners using assessment data in order to prioritise learners’ needs
  • Understand how to match assessment data to a learner’s needs within their specific setting

Unit 3:  Group Interventions for Learners with Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties

Learners will:

  • Understand how to plan an intervention programme for learners with dyslexia/specific learning difficulties
  • Be able to collaborate with individuals when working with individuals with dyslexia/specific learning difficulties
  • Be able to deliver a planned group intervention programme
  • Know how to evaluate a planned group intervention for learners with dyslexia/specific learning difficulties

Unit 4:  Understanding the Quality Assurance of  a Provision for Learners with Dyslexia/Specific Learning Difficulties

Learners will:

  • Be able to demonstrate the impact of legal, national and local requirements for learners with dyslexia/specific learning difficulties
  • Be able to conduct an effective audit of a provision for learners with dyslexia/specific learning difficulties
  • Know how to analyse the data collected in the above audit to inform best practice for a provision for learners with dyslexia/specific learning difficulties
  • Be able to develop and prioritise SMART targets for a setting development plan for learners with dyslexia/specific learning difficulties
  • Understand how to use the data from the evaluation of a setting development plan

We anticipate the course will take approximately an additional 120 hours to complete. Units 1 and 2 are compulsory, then each candidate may choose either Unit 3 or 4 to achieve the Award.
